Just 9 days ago, 15 year old Shereka Marsh was part of a team of students from The Urswick School, who welcomed the Jamaican High Commissioner, Aloun Ndombet-Assambaand and other dignitaries to her school in Hackney Central.

Yesterday afternoon she was shot in the neck and died at the scene, a home on Eastway in Hackney Wick.  According to local sources and social networks it was an accidental shooting, although law enforcement have not confirmed this. A hand gun has since been recovered from the house.

Three teenage boys under 18 have been arrested and are being questioned in custody at an East London police station.

Following a special assembly on March 14, where the High Commissioner encouraged students to achieve, Shereka Marsh along with the head boy and two other students led the dignitaries which included Councillor Patrick Vernon, on a tour of the school where they met students in classes.

Councillor Vernon commented about meeting Shereka Marsh via his twitter account:

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Detectives from the Homicide & Major Crime Command are investigating. Enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
