Sanctuary Housing now providing Foodbank vouchers for residents

Sanctuary Housing holds vital food vouchers in Haringey-1

A leading social housing group has recently been approved, to be official foodbank voucher holders for the Trussell Trust Hackney foodbank.

Sanctuary Housing who own and manage approx 4,500 properties across the borough of Hackney, can now identify and evaluate residents in crisis who require emergency use of the Hackney foodbank. Income advisors and foodbank volunteers will also be able to offer advice and information to residents in need, helping them to solve the longer-term problem.

Meghan Zinkewich-Peotti, Sanctuary Housing’s partnerships manager, said: “I am so pleased that our income advisors are now able to issue foodbank vouchers. They work on the frontline with residents, so are able to find out quickly, if someone is facing a crisis.

“This will not only mean that we can help out in the short term with the vouchers, but also offer our residents support for the long term, helping them get back on track.”

Staff were provided with guidelines and information on assessing needs. The housing provider was then given a small stock of vouchers to be given out to residents.

The Trussell Trust foodbank network works in partnership with local churches and organisations to bring foodbanks to communities across the UK. There are now over 380 foodbanks in the network.

Christine Bamigbola from the London Trussell Trust Foodbanks added: “Trussell Trust foodbanks rely on partnerships with organisations like Sanctuary to help us to identify people who are facing hunger and make sure that they are helped.

“Partnerships are vital to making sure that people in genuine need are able to access food and support right when they need it. We are really pleased to be working with Sanctuary to help stop hunger locally.”

Vouchers are also available to Santuary tenants in Haringey and Westminster.

About Remi

Remi Hackney Hive founder, publisher and contributor. Hackneyite and all round Girl Friday who couldn't wait to leave Hackney and London behind her. After hitching her wagon in California, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana for 18 years, with a brief spell in Mexico, the prodigal daughter returned to London, happy to put an unconventional and risqué past behind her. It sometimes feels like she’s still at war with herself. This often leads her into a whole lot of trouble, although it’s fair to blame it on some of her best qualities: intelligence, original thinking, willingness to take risks, skepticism, rebelliousness, independence, and creativity. But you know what, much of the trouble she gets into is because she can’t help pointing out that the emperor is naked. Remi still lives by her own rules, nobody else’s. She is owned by her two dogs Deffer(a Jack Russell ) Darcy (a Jack Russell/Pomeranian mix now deceased but can’t remove their names) and two Short Hair British Domestic Black cats she adopted December 2021, Desmond and Tutu and Dixie, a Tabby she rescued last summer who had been a stray kitten. She is proprietor of London’s finest and long established pet sitting service. The big smoke is home for the moment, but she desperately yearns wide open spaces, where she hopes to call home in the near future.
