Woman in her 60’s killed on Stoke Newington High Street, after collision with lorry

Police were alerted to reports of a collision involving a man and a tipper lorry on Stoke Newington High Street, near Evering Road, at 11.40 am today.

The woman, who is thought to be in her mid 60’s, was pronounced dead at the scene and Police are in the process of informing her next of kin.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

This is the third pedestrian related death in Stoke Newington since October. One of them was just a few yards away on Stoke Newington Road, near Princess May Street, where a woman aged 56, died days later of injuries she sustained in the collision.

A10 Stoke Newington High Street remains closed between Amhurst Rd and Evering Rd and drivers are being asked to seek alternative routes.

Bus routes 67, 76, 149 and 243 are subject to diversion and delays northbound on Stoke Newington High Street.

Correction 12:15 pm, Sunday 12th January: A police spokesperson has confirmed to Hackney Hive that the victim was female. Initial reports stated a male.
