Young Hackney is hosting a huge range of free activities over the half term break, open to all 8 -19 year-olds.
The Young Hackney centres will be the focus of most of the events; Concorde, in Homerton; Forest Road, in Dalston; Hoxton Hall, in Shoreditch; The Edge, in Woodberry Down and Young Hackney Stoke Newington.
Highlights include a BMX taster session for 6-14 year-olds at Daubney Green skate park. Those who enjoy the initial session will be able to take part in a six week course, eventually tackling the Olympic Park Velodrome.
Forest Road and The Edge will be celebrating Black History Month with a range of theatre and fashion events, culminating in an open day at Forest Road, from 11am-3pm on 3 November, where guests will have the chance to see some of the young people’s work and enjoy a Caribbean lunch.
The Concorde Centre will be offering kung-fu classes, indoor roller skating, kayaking and a table tennis tournament, while Hoxton Hall’s film club will show a Halloween screening of Ghostbusters.
The Edge will be hosting construction careers day for those interested in working in the construction trade, and Hackney Insiders journalism project is offering a web development project and a trip to IPC Media and a Shoreditch design agency.
Says Cllr Rita Krishna: “Whether you’re looking for something to add to your CV, want to pick up new skills or just want to have some fun this half term, there’s plenty on offer for young people in Hackney. I’d encourage everyone to get out during the holiday and take advantage of all that’s on offer.”
