The newly restored Clissold House

From brides to butterfly-lovers, skaters to scholars, there is something for everyone at Clissold Park. Now its fans are being encouraged to show their support for the popular Stoke Newington attraction by voting it the nation’s favourite park.

The historic park is one of the 1,448 Green Flag sites in the running for the annual People’s Choice Award, managed by Keep Britain Tidy. Much-loved by residents across the borough, both Clissold Park and Clissold House have been transformed in recent years following a £9 million restoration project.

The ambitious project, carried out with funds from Hackney Council and the Big and Heritage Lottery Funds, included the restoration of the Grade II* listed Clissold House, new and renovated animal enclosures and a butterfly dome. Visitors can also enjoy education and community resources in the old bowls pavilion, a new play area and wheels park. The park is also home to parts of the New River, completed 400 years ago to bring drinking water to the capital, and restored in 2012.

Caroline Millar Chair of the Clissold Park User Group said: “Anyone who has been in Clissold Park will have seen for themselves how much people love this park. It offers something for everyone and gives local people a real haven in their city lives. It has always been a great park but the recent restoration work means it is now a truly beautiful public space which we are very lucky to have”.

Clissold Park has been a Green Flag space since 2006 and the public can now decide whether it should be named park of the year with an online vote. To vote for Clissold Park visit and follow the link. Voting will close at midday on 1st October 2013.
