An elderly woman was killed this morning after she was hit by 2 vehicles at the junction of Lower Clapton Rd and Urnswick Road. Witnesses say she was hit by a lorry, then a car went over her.

A woman who works nearby told Hackney Hive, “I stopped outside the shop I work at just to take one last drag of my cigarette at about 10:30 am. I heard something followed by people screaming and running, then I began to run towards the lady that got hit.

“It was total pandemonium, there was nothing I could do but call the 999. I’ve had a near miss crossing myself and everyone knows it is a very dangerous crossing.”

Emergency services including the London Air Ambulance attended the scene where the woman was pronounced dead.
