Workshops in dance, general health advice, drugs and alcohol awareness, and healthy eating will be complimented by free beauty and pampering sessions, plus yoga, Wii Fit, Aeroball and retro school sports day tasters in an informative and fun-packed evening.
Highlights include the ‘Just Dance’ competition, performances with special guests including Princess Nyah, and the opportunity to take part in an original World Record attempt for the largest, female-only Skank dance. There will also be lots of prizes to be won including iPods and shopping vouchers.
The YWG’s contributions to raising awareness about getting fit, staying healthy and having fun in Hackney, was recognised earlier this month when they won a prestigious national award, The Diana Award’s Certificate of Excellence.
Councillor Krishna said: “Congratulations to the Young Women’s Group, whose efforts have been recognised through the Diana Award.
The events that are organised by the young women are extremely popular and demonstrate the commitment of the group, to provide activities that young people enjoy, with support from Hackney Youth Service.”
Hackney’s Young Women’s Group has been meeting on Wednesday evenings in Central Hackney since May 2009. Additional ‘Girls-Only’ sessions are being held weekly in Frampton Park Youth Club and Fellows Court Youth Project.
