Two Way Traffic On Stoke Newington Church Street, Restored

Residents and users of Stoke Newington Church Street are going to be pleased on Friday (12 March) when two way traffic is restored as new pavements and road surfacing work nears completion.

Major works to improve and regenerate the area along Church Street started last September following the Council’s consultation with residents and businesses.

Two-way traffic will return to the street, which is a key economic and social centre within Hackney, as the road surfacing works come to an end. The footway works, at the end of the road between Wilmer Place and the High Street, will continue without the need for a traffic diversion and are expected to be completed in April.

Councillor Alan Laing, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We have worked closely with residents and the Stoke Newington Business Association to ensure the scheme was delivered as soon as possible and to the highest possible standard. The investment in Church Street has created a safer, more pleasant and coordinated environment that is sure to benefit residents, businesses and visitors.”
