The Rio in Dalston will go ahead and screen “Exit Through The Gift Shop” from this Friday 5th March.
Last week the cinema was waiting to see how people in Hackney received Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s new French film, Micmacs and promised they would make a decision based on the out come.
The artist has a handful of paintings in the borough, including Stoke Newington Church Street and The Foundry in Shoreditch. More recently he’s attracted attention over Hackney Council removal policy.
The documentary also screened at the Berlin Film Festival, although Banksy didn’t attend, fearing he could be prosecuted. Instead, he addressed critics via a filmed address before the start of the movie.
During his address he describes the film as “the first street art disaster movie,” and went on to say “I’d like to start by saying that I never intended to make a film and some people might say that I’ve succeeded in that ambition”.
