Teenagers Evidence Convicts Hoxton Gun Man

An Old Bailey Judge praised four Hoxton teenagers who gave evidence after wittnessing a drug dealer shoot a man over a £150 drug debt.

Desmond Meade, 26 of Hoxton shot Richard Ballentine over a £150 debt in full few of 2 boys and 2 girls aged between 13-16 who were sitting on a nearby wall, who called 999 after the attack.

Meades fo St Johns Estate was Meade was found guilty of attempted murder and ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years. He was on bail for possession of £800 from drug dealing when he attacked Richard Ballentine, the court heard.

Richard Ballentine will suffer health problems as a result of the bullet lodged in his chest.

Meade was told by the Judge he “”Such was your arrogance, you did not care whether the crime was witnessed, as in fact it was by four young people sitting on a wall nearby.”

The teenagers were awarded £200 each. Commenting Judge Giles Forrester said: “The evidence of each of the four of them played an important part in securing the conviction of a dangerous gunman. They are all to be commended”.

Two of then gave evidence in court and the other two via a statement.
