Although Dalston’s Rio cinema is listed on a flyer as one of the limited cinemas to screen the controversial street artists’ new documentary, it may not happen. According to the Rios general manager Charles Rubenstien its screening is dependent on the success of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s new French film, Micmacs.
A decision on Banksy’s film will be decided on Monday 1st Marchth. The artists has a handful of paintings in the borough, including Stoke Newington Church Street and The Foundry in Shoreditch. More recently he’s attracted attention over Hackney Council removal policy.
His new film explores the boundaries on what is art, what is graffiti and what is rubbish. The documentary ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’ is currently been ‘screened’ at a rather interesting makeshift cinema under a railway bridge in Waterloo.
