Maiden Voyage - Album Launch feat. The Ballina Whalers, The Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir & Will Lang @ Round Chapel Old School Rooms, | London | United Kingdom

The Ballina Whalers present…

An evening of maritime music in association with The Trad Academy at The Round Chapel

—-

Celebrating the launch of:

“Pull Down Below”
The Ballina Whalers’ hotly anticipated third EP.

The Ballina Whalers are Pete Truin, Jamie Doe and Sam Brookes – three musical barnacles clinging to the creaking hull of a musical tradition stretching back over hundreds of years. Using just their voices they explore ballads, shanties and seafaring songs that tell tales of whaling ships, lost loves, roaring storms and hardship out at sea.

Fast becoming one of the most sought after shanty bands around, known as much for their heart rending three part harmonies as their lusty approach to singing shanties, the last few years have been extremely busy for the boys, seeing them playing folk clubs, harbour sides, beaches, boat sheds and festivals up and down the country.

“Stunning voices that blend so beautifully, a real knock out”
Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2

and

“Maiden Voyage”
A debut album featuring the Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir to raise money for the East Coast Sail Trust.

The Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir are a non-audition community choir based in London exploring the work-songs of the golden age of sail and have worked with many renowned musicians from the maritime world including Jim Radford, Andy Kenna, Keith Kendrick and Sylvia Needham. The choir continues to go from strength to strength, with an invitation to perform at the 2015 Festival du chant de marin in Paimpol, France.

also featuring:

DJ set from special guest Will Lang

Seamlessly mashing up old folk, new folk and sometimes no folk at all. From shanties and ballads to hip hop beats and disco bangers. Will Lan has DJ’d some of the biggest UK folk festivals with his mix music old and new

“Absolutely terrific”
– Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2

Hand Maid @ Hoxton Arches Gallery | London | United Kingdom

Sweet ‘Art, a non-profit arts organisation based in London, are hosting their 12th large multi media art event this March. ‘Hand Maid’ will be Sweet ‘Art’s third exhibition in aid of International Women’s Day and is following a Sweet ‘Art tradition of hosting fun, challenging, interactive and inclusive exhibitions to mark IWD.

‘Hand Maid’ will take place at the Hoxton Arches Gallery in Shoreditch and will showcase the work of local and international artists exploring the themes of femininity, feminine identity and women’s day. Works will celebrate, critique and reflect notions of femininity in our society and internationally, created by artists identifying as any gender.
Along with exhibiting a selection of artworks, from the beautiful to the provocative, Hand Maid will also be an inclusive and fun art experience for visitors attending the show and our opening reception, that is set to be another awesome arty party following Sweet ‘Art tradition, including interactive artworks, workshops and fun and exciting freebies and surprises. We plan for Hand Maid to be our most ambitious event to date, continuing our ethos of making art accessible to all.
So do join us for a vagina cupcake and a Sweet ‘Art punch on the 5th of March in celebration and solidarity!
