Reports of some type of melee last night at the Ahavas Torah Synagogue on Craven Park Road, that left one person injured, has surfaced on social media.
A video posted on YouTube appears to be of a drunk mob breaking their way into the synagogue shouting “we will kill you”. Police say they were called at 1:15 am this morning (Sunday) to the disturbance.
It is believed the group of party goers from a nearby house party, tried to enter the Synagogue by smashing the glass panes on the door. A few gained entrance but were removed by security staff.
The incident is being treated as an anti-Semitic incident, due to remarks made by one of the group. However there is nothing to suggest that it was a planned or targeted attack nor any suggestion that theren is a far right or extrmesit related. Four men and two women were arrested for public order offences and assault, and all were taken to a north London police station where they remain in custody. Poice are currently reviewing local CCTV footage.
Inspector Jonathan Waterfield said: “We are investigating to establish the full circumstances of the incident and to identify anyone else involved in the disturbance who has not yet been arrested.
“We have also increased police patrols in the Stamford Hill area to provide reassurance to the community.”
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call Haringey CID via 101.
The Synagogue is on the Tottenham/Stamford Hill border, and in this case is being investigated by police in Haringey.
