A new support and advocacy group formed to tackle the woes of renting in the borough, is launching it’s self on Thursday 25 October at the CLR James Library in Dalston.
DIGS, a branch of Hackney Unites, aims to support, provide advice to renters and campaign for a better deal for renters in Hackney.
With affordable housing in the borough at an all time low, renters are sometimes at the mercy of unscrupulous landlords and Estate Agents who have an advantage over often desperate renters which has led to disproportionate rent increases, unreasonable letting fees, poor quality housing and illegal evictions.
Speakers will be Ben Reeve-Lewis and Hackney Councillor Alcock. There will also be an open discussion where people will be encouraged to share their views and thoughts on tackling rental issues common to them.
