87 of Hackney’s 102 Primary 2012 Ambassadors, attended a function with Mrs Obama, where they came face-to-face with the First Lady on the sports-field, on the morning of Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Throughout the past year, these Ambassadors have been involved in a number of exciting opportunities which has allowed them to represent the borough beyond Hackney, London and the UK.  They have written and recorded songs for the Olympics, attended events at Olympic Park, visited other primary schools in the UK and written a newsletter that has been distributed to all schools in Hackney.

The first lady who is heading the US Olympic delegation, has been busy stomping for and motivating the 529 strong team USA members, was joined by David Beckham.

Excited Ambassador Ummar Shakoor, from Daubeney Primary School, said: “I was in the football area and David Beckham saw me kick a goal into the top corner and said I was a good shooter and could be a footballer when I grow up!”

Fellow Ambassador Zainab Fagbamila, from Nightingale Primary School said of her brush with the First Lady: “I did the obstacle course with her. We weren’t racing – we did it together. I got to take pictures with her and even got four hugs!!!”

Steve Belk, Acting Chief Executive said: “The First Lady’s passion project, Let’s Move, is a great match for Hackney’s Primary 2012 Ambassadors. They have been active in the borough throughout the year, in every sense of the word.

“Meeting Michelle Obama will hopefully inspire them to continue to lead healthy lifestyles by being active and eating well. This is a message they can take back to their schools and use the public speaking skills they have honed throughout the year to spread this message across the borough for the First Lady.”

“Let’s Move” is America’s move to raise a healthier generation of kids. First Lady of the United States of America Michelle Obama is a spokesperson.
