Cash boost and uplift for Kynaston Gardens

The Friends of Kynaston Gardens have been awarded £48,225 from Groundwork UK and the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Spaces programme to improve the site. The gardens, in Stoke Newington, are owned and managed by Hackney Council. Unfortunately it has suffered from anti-social behaviour and street drinking.

The new design includes community food growing beds to encourage use by local people and the school, wild flowers to improve biodiversity and new play features for younger visitors.

Hackney Council will continue to work closely with all involved throughout the autumn to implement the improvements that will benefit the local community.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Health & Community Services said: “This is really good news and shows what can be done when the Council and the community work together. Hackney has many little green treasures cared for by volunteers who are doing a great job. I’m looking forward to seeing the plans become a reality for this green space.”

Matt Dillon from the Friends of Kynaston Gardens said: “This is brilliant news and means that soon the once-neglected space on Kynaston Avenue will be blooming with a community garden and children’s play space which everyone can enjoy.”
