Female cyclist hit by lorry at Old Street roundabout

A police spokesman has confirmed that a female cyclist was hit by a lorry, at Old Street roundabout this morning  (24 February) at about 7.40 am.

After initial treatment from paramedics, she was transported to The Royal London Hospital with head and chest injuries, which has been described as life threatening.

This is the second major accident in the vicinity within the past week. Last  Wednesday (16 February), another female cyclist was injured at the junction of Baldwin Street and City Road.

Police have cordoned off  surrounding roads.  A5201 Old Street in Shoreditch is closed and there is queueing traffic westbound between the A1202 Great Eastern Street junction and Old Street Roundabout. There is also congested traffic on surrounding roads, including Shepherdess Walk junction.

UPDATE

The injuries are now thought to not be life threatening. 2:05 pm 24/02/2011
