October is Black History Month and Hackney will be celebrating and honouring the achievements of Black, African and Caribbean communities in creative art and media.
Events are free and taking place at Hackney Museum and libraries until December 2010. There is something for everyone including sessions featuring guest speakers, music workshops, seminars, creative writing sessions and film screenings.
This year, celebrations begin with a joint launch event with the Reggae Rebels exhibition at Hackney Museum on Thursday 23 September.
Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, Jonathan McShane said: “We are proud of the achievements of Black African and Caribbean communities in Hackney which is why we celebrate throughout the year. October’s Black History Month gives us the opportunity to come together and celebrate how Black culture has shaped and still shaping our borough.”
