Concern Over Missing Battersea Man

Missing Battersea man John Sleigh

Police in Wandsworth are appealing for assistance in tracing a 36 year old New Zealand man missing since Saturday 8 May.

John Sleigh, an engineering draughtsman, was reported missing by concerned family and friends on Monday 10 May after he failed to show up for work that day. John of Sugden Road, SW11, is known as Johnny to his friends was last seen at The Guanabara Bar in Parker Street, WC2 when he left in the very early hours of Saturday 8 May after a night out with friends. He was caught on CCTV walking towards Oxford Street at 1.20am. Police said he has not used his bank accounts since.

His sister Catherine Booth said: “It’s so scary to hear that his bank account is untouched. But at this stage of the search any information is welcome. It feels like we could be a step closer to finding Johnny.”

John is described as white, about 6ft 2ins and of an athletic build. He has short, thinning fair hair and was last seen wearing a zip-up dark-coloured jumper. A Police spokesman said: “Officers, family and friends are concerned for his safety and welfare. He has not gone missing before and has not turned up for social events or work, which is extremely out of character.”

His family in Waimate, Canterbury, New Zealand, have set up a web site to help in the search.
