Police Treat Mental Unit Death As Murder

Detectives are treating the death of inpatient Prodip Debnath, 31, at Mile End Hospital as murder.

At about 8:00 pm Friday 9 April, police and ambulance service were called to the mental health unit of Mile End Hospital in Bancroft Road E1, after a patient was reported injured.

He was taken to nearby Royal London Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are awaiting post mortem results. A 20 year old man was arrested and bailed to a secure hospital accommodation, pending further police inquiries.
